Worlds largets wooden buildning

Sara Culture House

Sara Cultural Centre – one of the world’s tallest timber building is located in Skellefteå, just below the Artic Circel in the northern Sweden. The building will be housing venues for arts, performance and meetings as well as a hotel.

In 2021, the gates will open to a unique and dynamic meeting point combining culture and entertainment with meetings, in direct connection with a new premium hotel, culinary experiences, spa and different scenes for events. Sara Cultural Centre will be known for its hospitality, its activities and its desire to think differently.

Skellefteå´s new cultural centre is a wood-constructed, climate-smart building that is good for both the environment and for those people using the venue. The 20-storey building is built largely from timber sourced from local forest reserves. Solar power cells and efficient energy use further help to minimize the house’s climate footprint.

Sara Culture House contains the latest energy solutions. One of the energy companies in the region Skellefteå Kraft and ABB have implemented solutions, to show how smart we can build properties from an energy saving point of view. To reach all the way to 100 percent renewable energy system, the property’s internal energy system is integrated and optimized towards the city’s central energy solutions, with new smart algorithms.

Sara Cultural Centre has been awarded Architectural Review / Mipim Future Project Award 2018 and was nominated for WAF 2018 and MIPIM Awards 2018, category Best Futura Project.
